Go Right Through for...new curtains?

We had a great weekend in EL – got to see lots of friends, enjoy an MSU football game, a bonfire with the Filipiaks and learned that Tim and Becky are pregnant again!! :)  Although the weather was a little chilly, the game was an easy win for State and the first MSU football game Jon and I had ever been to together!
And, as I was unloading the images onto the computer this morning, I found some more I’ve meant to post of our new curtains that we made…like out of fabric and a sewing machine.  So we got a sewing machine from Jon’s sister and although it’s a little old school, it still does the job!  We felt like we needed a little privacy on our back door!   The best part is we got a great deal on the fabric and so making them cost about 30 bucks!
(Note the lack of deck out back....sooooo many new pics to come soon!!!!)
And then I found these pictures…more to come on the projects we were working on…but for now, let’s just enjoy Whit sleeping in the sawdust…

Go Green!

We’re so excited to head to MSU this weekend and revisit friends and some family! It’s sure to remind us of our good ole EL days. And we couldn’t be happier that we’ll get to see our A-town friends on Friday night at Alma’s vball game! Woohoo for a green floor and a brand spanking new gym and go ACVB!!

And, in addition to all this, our deck is coming along outside. We can’t wait to see the final product with the slate patio too! And more importantly we can’t wait to enjoy a few fall dinners on the porch (if it doesn’t start snowing here in northern Michigan)!

We have LOTS to be thankful for this week…good friends, wonderful family, a great birthday celebrated with my mom and our whole family (quite possibly the first time since high school), our “old dog” learning “new tricks” (yeah, Whit!), and a chance to have a fantastic weekend!

House Demo....yep, there's still more.

We've recently been taking on quite a few projects at home...Jon's made a bookshelf, I'm learning to sew curtains, Jon chainsawed our deck off...YEP, he totally did.

Our neighbors have got to be wondering about us at this point (good thing my bro and sis-in-law are some of them)! And although the bookshelf and curtains aren't finished yet (we'll post pics when they are because we are so darn proud of ourselves for these creations!!!), Jon did recently put up some shelves in our bathroom! We were reminiscing back to our house on Every Road and Jasen & Michelle's design for these. We just love the open feel and easy access to anything from the bathroom! And the best part is we used a HD gift card (thanks Kasiborskis!) to buy the plywood, leftover trim for the edges, white paint we already had and bins from Bed, Bath, and Beyond purchased with another gift card...making this a very inexpensive project!
We've loved all the projects with our house, but are beginning to realize they are never-ending (a little difference from our last house in Okemos). Maybe once the cottage is closed for the summer, we'll have a little more time at home on the weekends!

Cottage Summers

Last Friday night we had a fun little gathering at the cottage: great friends, nice boat ride and swim, topped off with great food, and dancing to Jelly Roll Blues Band in Alan-son (as Megan would say). Although I somehow missed taking pictures of the people there I did get some of the spread I put out :)We also got to spend some time with the boys and my parents on Saturday night. They're so sweet and continue to amaze us with how smart they are!

I'm addicted to YHL

If you have never checked out the blog, Young House Love, you should definitely do it soon! We've just gotten our new furniture (pics coming as soon as we clear the clutter) and I've already informed Jon of all the lovely 'projects' we have for the weekend. Good thing he's quite the woodworker :)

What a weekend...

We had a busy, but wonderful weekend. It seems like those are pretty frequent this summer, but we can't complain. We headed to Frankfort on Friday. It may be one of my favorite cities in Michigan (other than Petoskey, of course). Our resort was right on the beach and even though we weren't there long, we got to play 'fudgies'. Nothing like getting ice cream with the nephews and 'nieces', and then watching the sunset. Fun times.

The next morning we headed to Holland for Mary & Jeff's wedding. All these Alma gatherings this summer have been great!

1st Annual Burt Bash

As I was going through my camera, I found some pictures that were taken at the First Annual Burt Bash! Even though the weather wasn't the greatest, we had a pretty intense lake baseball game, played a ton of catch phrase and the guys got to do quite a bit of fishing. Can't wait to do it all again next year!

The boys -- enjoying their bad shots!

A couple 'after' pictures!

I've posted a few pics so you can see the comparison to the 'before' house pictures. I would take a few more photos, but we went a little crazy at a 'going-out-of-business' sale at a furniture store and therefore have a new couch, loveseat, dining room table and tv stand coming on Friday. So, I'll wait till then to take more!

For the fireplace, we tore out the old tile and put in the new slate tiles! In the breakfast nook, we put in new tile floors and Grandma Ann graciously donated her table! We also put in a new stove/microwave combo and Jon had the idea of a shelf for all of my cookbooks! Then, in our first extra bedroom we added wood floors (throughout most of the house) and painted. The last photo is of our guest bath with new tile, paint, and handles on the vanity!

Whoa...bringing this up-to-date

Why I thought I could keep up with images and blogs while we worked on the house and got married, I'll never know! Anyway, we're home from our honeymoon and I thought I'd start to post some before pictures of the house...many more updates to come!

First Adventure

Well, we've finally sold our house in Okemos and are now working on a remodel in P-town. The best part? We're literally just down the street from my bro and sis and their two wonderful kids (and close to my folks, too). So, I've decided to start blogging (partly to sway Jon into posting pics while I'm 3.5 hours away during the week) to show you the new progress first in this adventure.

Don't worry, we hope to have many more adventures as Jon and I venture back to my childhood home and Jon's favorite vacation spot as a kid.

38 more days and I'll finally be "home".

New Pictures to come soon...
-House Before
-House During (Jon & my pops are doing a lot of the work)
